Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani concerned over Qassem Suleimani influence in Iraq
Iraqi sources emphasized the recent trip made by Quds Force chief Qassem Suleimani to
Baghdad in late August was aimed at deescalating the Iraqi demonstrations and preventing the prosecution of former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, Al Arabiya.net reported on Monday, September 7th.
However, these meddling measures by Suleimani in Iraq have faced STRONG opposition from Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, the staunch supporter of the reforms presented by Prime Minister Dr. Haider al-Abadi.
Nationwide-protests across Iraq
Earlier of this he refused to meet with Qassem Suleimani. This is considered a major blow to Iran's influence in Iraq which it has invested so heavily in during the past 12 years.
