UN Urges Iran Not to Execute Man Convicted While a Juvenile

The U.N. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights is urging Iran to stop the execution of a man who was a juvenile when sentenced in 2012. Sajad Sanjari was 15 years old when an Iranian court sentenced him to death for fatally stabbing a man. In 2014, he was granted a retrial under a new Islamic Penal Code, but the following year, a provincial criminal court rejected his argument that he acted in self-defense against a would-be rapist. The court confirmed the death sentence, saying Sanjari was mature enough to understand the nature of his crime. This ruling was upheld by Iran's Supreme Court last year.
A spokesman for the human rights office, Rupert Colville, says Iran is one of a few countries that still executes juvenile offenders. He says the use of capital punishment on anyone under the age of 18 is a violation of international human rights law. "At least five juveniles were reportedly executed in Iran last year,” Colville said, “and at least 78 people reportedly remain on death row for crimes they committed when they were under 18, although the actual figure may be much higher than that. " The number of executions in Iran is difficult to pin down, Colville tells VOA, because of the opaque system of government. "According to various NGO [non-governmental organization] sources, the number of people executed in 2016, last year, was over 500 — 530 according to some,” Colville said. “The vast majority is said to be for drug offenses."

Under international law, the death penalty may be imposed only for the most serious crimes — those involving intentional killing. Human rights experts say drug-related offenses do not meet that bar. The United Nations is calling for an immediate moratorium on the death penalty in Iran because of the high number of executions and concerns that defendants do not receive fair trials. Iran As a party to the ICCPR & is legally obliged 2 forbid torture & other cruel,inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Twenty of the victims were hanged on Saturday, January 14, 2017, in Gohardasht Prison, the Central Prison of Karaj, the Lakan Prison of Rasht, and the Dizelabad Prison of Kermanshah.

Foreign hostages is a lucrative business for Mullah regime in Iran

It's because the Iran regime now more need to stand up economy That's because the Iran regime is desperately needed to Prop up their  economy and ransom them to their respective countries for handsome amounts. What led us here? The failed policy aimed at taming the nefarious activities of the Iranian regime through concessions and appeasement. America was forced  for the release of Saeed Abedini and the other hostages to give ransom $ 400 million. In fact, recent months have seen a significant increase in the Iranian regime's actions against foreigners visiting the country. Since the January prisoner swap, at least six dual-national Iranians have been arrested, and others have received heavy prison sentences from the Iranian regime's judiciary under bogus charges of acting against the state. 
Iranian officials are making multi-million dollar demands for the release of some of the prisoners, and according to sources close to the Iranian regime, demands might be raised to as much as $2 billion. 
This is further proof that January's ransom has only whetted the appetite of the mullahs for more. To their benefit, foreign nationals have a voice abroad that will offer them a measure of reprieve and immunity from the horrors that have become the notorious hallmark of Iran's prisons. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the tens of thousands political prisoners executed without fair trials, and the thousands of inmates who continue to linger in Iran's dungeons, awaiting their fate under conditions that a recent United Nations report describes as deeply troubling. The next U.S. president will have a chance to adopt the right approach and show some backbone and determination. In the meantime, lives will be hanging in the balance.

Messages of Maryam Rajavi on the World Day Against Death Penalty: I hail the brave men and women who were executed by Iran's ruling religious dictatorship in the battle for freedom. More than any other party, the World Day Against the Death Penalty targets the Iranian regime that has so far executed 120,000 political prisoners who were serving their prison sentences, but were hanged just for their political beliefs. Mrs Rajavi said: According to Khomeini's fatwa, any prisoner who continued to adhere to the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), had to be executed.

The number of executions including political executions in Iran over the past one year exceed the number of executions carried out in most of the years of Khamenei's rule. The mass executions of 25 Sunni Kurds on August 2, 2016, and the executions of three Arab political prisoner on August 17, 2016, are just to name a few examples. According to the report by the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, Ahmad Shahid, nearly 1,000 people were executed last year in Iran. Then, in March 2015, Rouhani's Interior Minister Rahmani Fazli admitted, "Undoubtedly, part of the dirty money of drug trafficking gets funneled into the country's politics, elections and transfer of power." The death penalty faces growing opposition and general detestation in Iran, as well. The movement to obtain justice for victims of the massacre in 1988 has expanded in recent months cornering the mullahs with regards to continuing the executions.

Maryam Rajavi: I call on the international community to provide the arrangements for the prosecution of the clerical regime's leaders, particularly its leader Khamenei, in the international courts for the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners. We call on western governments to make their relations with the Iranian regime contingent on a moratorium on executions. OTTAWA- Iranian residents in Canada is calling on the Canadian's government to add a tough new element to its annual United Nations resolution on Iran's dubious human rights record - an International call for a war crimes investigation. The group, which calls itself Canadian Friends for a Democratic Iran, will make the request later today at a press conference on Parliament Hill. Canada has taken the lead each year since 2003 in sponsoring a resolution at the UN condemning Iran's human rights record. Now, Golestaneh's group wants the government to up the ante by asking the UN to launch an investigation into the events as part of that annual resolution.

As i was schedulled to visit my wife imprisoned in Evin Prison, one of the prison guards, named Mohammadreza Shojai, arbitrarily prohibited my visitation with my wife. When I asked about the reason he said that there is a court order prohibiting you from visiting your family. ... I asked him how is it possible that a court order is issued for me while I am not permitted to know about its content. Indeed, the pressures and the violation of rights stem from a corrupt hierarchy, repression and systematic tortures that go on in prison. Torturing and harassing prisoners have become the norm. As a political prisoner whose basic rights have been violated; I want you to tell us what to do in the current situation when no justice exists.

It should be noted, Hassan Sadeqi was arrested In the early hours of Monday, January 28, agents from the Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), (son of Gholam-Hossein Sadeqi, a member of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran [PMOI/MEK] and a resident of Camp Liberty, who died in Baghdad  January 2013 ), and his wife, Fatimah Mothana. The MOIS agents also confiscated their personal belongings, including their computers, family photos and books.
Mr. Sadeqi and Mrs. Mothana were both political prisoners during the 1980s.

On Monday the United Nation Independent International Commission of Inquiry for Syria said that the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad is committing crimes against people held in the country's prisons which include extermination, murder, rape, torture, forced disappearance and other inhumane acts. The investigators gathered evidence based on interviews with hundreds of people who managed to survive a period of detention, former prison staff and relatives of victims. The information has been published in a reporentitled “Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Deaths in Detention in

the Syrian Arab Republic.” 

According to the sources of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) inside the IRGC, the dispatching of Afghans to Syria has grown almost three-fold in 2015; from around 2500 to close to 7000.

The lifting of sanctions should be a precondition of human rights in Iran. According to reported by ISJ on November 20, 2014, the Iranian regime has done utmost to mislead the international community. The report found: "two systems have been fully functional during the whole period of the study. But disclosure of Iran’s nuclear projects in August 2002 by the opposition PMOI/MEK inside Iran and the political coalition NCRI, the Iranian regime would have undoubtedly far more surprised us in acquiring the nuclear bomb than the North Koreans. Iran should be held accountable by the UN Security Council for its abhorring and systematic violation of human rghits and its malign influence in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.  Any improvement of relations with this regime should be preconditioned on the improvement of human rights and situation of women and a complete withdrawal of its forces and militias from the countries in the region.


 

The United Nations Security Council strongly condemned an attack on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran

NCRI - The UN Security Council condemned attack on Saudi in Iran. After attack and set fire to the Saudia embassy in Tehran , Saudi Arabia cut off their diplomatic ties with Iran's regime on Sunday. The member of Security Council also condemned strongly the attack against  the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran, and its Consulate General in Mashhad in the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

Saudi Ambassador Abdallah al-Mouallimi urged the council to "take all appropreate measures to ensure the inviolability of diplomatic facilites and the protection of all Saudi diplomats in Iran". Following the attack some of the Arab countries in region, condemned that and downgrades of their diplomatic relations in Iran.
The United Arab Emirates decided to downgrade the level of its diplomatic representation in Iran to that of a charge d'affaires.

UN must obliged Iraq to gave visa to families of Mojahedin-e Khalq in Camp Liberty

A number of families of Camp Liberty residing in Europe and United states, are gravely concerned about the lives of our children, especially after the rocket attack on October 29 that killed 24 of the residents. After US forces held the responsibility of security of Camp Ashraf many of Mojahedin's families had the opportunity to come to Ashraf for visit their children for an unlimited.
 The United State had promised to protect the PMOI and even had given them the protection card. But since 2009, that Iraqi Government  accepted responsibility of security of the PMOI, 7 times they were ground offensive and missile attack by Iraqi Army.

Parts of his message make a comparison western appeasment of the mullah's regime in Iran and the appeasment of Nazi Germany by then French Prime Minister Philippe Petain.
In the current situation of our homeland [Iran] today, when the European Union, the Secretary General of the United Nations or anyone else only express concerns over the "high number of executions", does not this mean that a lower number, such as 1000, is okay !? And those who make such a deal, have they not bargained away their own conscience? And why not other deals? In any negotiation, negotiating parties must retreat to some extent to reach within the limits of the agreement.

A statement by the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein on August 5 said: "Iran has reportedly executed more than 600 individuals so far this year. Last year, at least 753 poeple were executed in the country". Amnesty International said on September 7 that "the Iranian authorities must end their unprecedented killing spree - more than 700 people have been executed so far this year."
